Portland Public Schools subscribes to two separate digital media products, Learn360 and PCTV, which offer streaming videos, audio files and digital photo downloads. Each service offers media from different vendors and publishers, so it is recommended that you register for both products. The District-wide license for Discovery Education has been discontinued.

The Instructional Resource Center (IRC) has created "Access Code Sheets" which contain registration information and school pass keys for both Learn360 and PCTV. These code sheets are posted on the IRC’s Digital Media Connect site by school name. Each access code sheet can be downloaded, printed, and shared with teachers and staff at your school.

Since PCTV is a relatively new service, they have offered to do trainings for teachers. If you feel that this could occur during one of your staff meetings and you are interested, please contact me and I can give you the vendor’s contact information.

With just over a month to go before the 2012 presidential election in the US, eyes around the world are on the contest between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. The election may well come down to a few key issues. So what matters most to Americans? The TED Blog read this Gallup poll from late July on issues that citizens want the next president to prioritize. Conveniently, these are topics that speakers often address on the TED stage. So, every week until the election, we’ll bring you a playlist focusing on one of the top-rated issues.

Among the most important questions in the upcoming election is, “How can we improve the nation’s public schools?” — 83 percent indicated that improving schools is “very important” or “extremely important.”

To get you thinking, talking and voting, here are 10 talks from speakers with some very big ideas about how to reshape our school environments.

$299 for both sessions or $199 for one.

The class is broken up into two parts. The first part is a good iPad starter course for teachers, and the second goes deeper into instructional and presentation tools. These can be taken separately or together. Taking them together makes them eligible for credit from Willamette University. While the combined class is only 6 hours of instruction (with an additional hour for lunch) it will actually provide 15 PDUs, because Willamette University is awarding 0.5 CEUs for each teacher. **Teachers must take parts I and II together to get the 0.5 CEU.
